A Chromebook prints over your network without extra drivers. Add the printer once and it appears in every print dialog. Here are the steps.

Last updated: October 30, 2026.

Step 1: Connect the printer to the same WiFi

Make sure the printer and Chromebook are on the same network. See how to connect a printer to WiFi.

Step 2: Add the printer

Open Settings, go to Advanced then Printing, and choose Printers. Nearby network printers may appear automatically. Select yours and save it. If it does not appear, choose Add Printer and enter its details.

Step 3: Print

Open a page or document, press Ctrl+P, choose your printer, set the options and click Print.

If the printer does not appear

Restart the printer, check that both devices are on the same network, and check the manufacturer’s page for ChromeOS support.

Support varies by model. Check the manufacturer’s page or app.

Printing From Specific Apps

In Chrome, Google Docs and most web apps, press Ctrl+P to open the print dialog. In the dialog you can choose the printer, pages, copies, color, two-sided printing and paper size. You can also choose Save as PDF as the destination if you want a digital copy instead of paper.

Adding a Printer by Address

If your printer is not discovered automatically, open Settings, go to Printing, choose Printers and then Add Printer. Enter the printer’s name and its IP address. You can find the IP address on the printer’s network settings page or by printing a network configuration page.

Managing Your Printers

In the same Printers list you can rename a printer, remove one you no longer use and see which printers are saved. Saved printers appear in the print dialog on that Chromebook.

Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Restart the printer and the Chromebook.
  • Confirm both are on the same WiFi network and that the printer is not asleep.
  • Update ChromeOS to the latest version.
  • Remove the printer in Settings and add it again.
  • Check the manufacturer’s page to confirm ChromeOS support for your model.
